Jail Host enabled by default for all new hosts

The level of security which our web hosting platform provides has risen tremendously since we introduced the Jail Host functionality about two years ago.

Jail Host offers extra protection against intruders who infiltrate the system. It does that by ‘jailing’ the ‘germ’ within the limits of a particular host.

As of recent months, the Jail Host option is active by default for all newly created hosts. We also strongly advise customers to also enable it for their websites as soon as possible.

How does the Jail Host option work?

The purpose of Jail Host is to be several steps ahead of any potential intruder.

There is no universal cure for hacker attacks, even in the day and age where security solutions are more sophisticated and reliable.

This is why the Jail Host barrier is so efficient.

In case where a hacker brakes into a particular website, he or she won’t spread their malicious activity to another host.

As depicted above, the domain with the Jail Host functionality switched on is isolated from the rest of the hosts in the /www directory within the same hosting account.

This way, in case of an attack hackers won’t be able to get access to the entire system by using the the host as a doorway to it.

The encapsulation is done on an OS level. Our system will automatically protect your websites from all feasible hacking scenarios.

Jail Host tackles the problem in an innovative way – it maintains the hosting environment intruder-free via a segmental level of protection.

Thus, if a hacker penetrates one of your hosts, the rest of your content will remain untouched.

What will happen to already added hosts?

You can enable ‘jail host’ protection from the Hosted Domains section of the Web Hosting Control Panel.

In the table of hosted domains navigate to the Actions column – and more specifically to the Edit host option:

When you open the Edit host form you’ll be able to see the option at the very bottom:

In order to complete the action – simply tick the box and click on the Edit Host button.
