Why register a .GR domain?

Greece is an Eastern European country which is famous for its ancient history, its mythology and literature. It’s also the birthplace of democracy, the Olympic Games, and the basic mathematical principles.

Because of their long history (dating back to as early as 3200 BC), the Greek people are proud of their legacy and, as researches show, websites that correspond with this. Therefore, if you have a .GR domain name for the Greek market, you’ll get more visits than a .COM website.

The economy in Greece is currently recovering at full speed and it’s probably the best time to target their online market. Your reseller hosting customers will also appreciate this opportunity, so don’t hesitate to enable the .GR domain name extension on your store.

Everywhere around the world, local domain names get higher SERPs. So, if you have an attractive website that is translated in Greek, regardless of its type, an online store, a blog, a community forum, etc. and it uses any other domain name extension, it will be ranked behind all similar websites that have local (.GR) URL addresses.

Another great advantage of the .GR is that it’s easy to pronounce, so it’ll be easy to remember by everyone. In case the origin of your website’s domain name extension is not important to you for some reason, .GR is still a recommended choice.

All Greek private and business users will prefer a .GR website. It’ll also be attractive to everyone else who appreciates the glorious history of this ancient country.

A great part of Greece’s GDP is derived from tourism and it’s a popular international tourist destination. More than 28 million people visited Greece in 2016. There are much more who are yet to do this, but they’re fascinated by its beauty and would often browse through Greek websites.
